The Standard Treatment Programme (STP) complements the NCSCT Training and Assessment Programme which you must take and pass to become an NCSCT Certified Stop Smoking Practitioner.
The STP for the NHS Community Pharmacy Smoking Cessation Service is designed for you to follow closely (do what it says you should do, say what it suggests that you should say) so that you can deliver effective and evidence-based behaviour change techniques to give your patients the best chance of quitting.
These Standard Treatment Programme Checklists are designed to assist you in delivering evidence-based and effective behaviour change techniques that will add value to quit attempts.
These Checklists are NOT a replacement for following the STP, they are designed as an aide memoir to make sure that you cover everything in every consultation and for when you are confident that you can deliver the behaviour change techniques (doing what it says you should do, saying what it suggests that you should say) without referring to the STP all of the time.
The Standard Treatment Programme for the NHS Community Pharmacy Smoking Cessation Service (SCS) has been published via a rapid development process to make sure that it was available for the launch of this service.
We welcome any feedback from community pharmacists who have used the STP in their clinical practice. If you have any corrections, suggestion or comments then please use this form and submit to enquiries@ncsct.co.uk.
