The NCSCT Training and Assessment Programme is based on research into what competences (skills and knowledge) are required by stop smoking practitioners.1 The core programme has the following elements:

Stop smoking practitioners who work for an NHS or NHS commissioned stop smoking service qualify for Stage 1 NCSCT Certification (knowledge). To qualify for Full NCSCT Certification, stop smoking practitioners need to additionally pass the online NCSCT Stage 2 Assessment (practice).
A unique online assessment tool called LifeGuide has been used to as a platform for the NCSCT Assessments.
The core training provided by the NCSCT will be free of charge until April 2012.
