NCSCT Training

The NHS Centre for Smoking Cessation and Training (NCSCT) is funded by the Department of Health to:

  • Help the stop smoking services in England to provide high quality stop smoking support based on the most up-to-date evidence available
  • Contribute to the professional identity of stop smoking practitioners and ensure that they receive due recognition for their role
  • Research and disseminate ways of improving the provision of stop smoking support

Competences / NCSCT Training Standard

The NCSCT has identified the competences (knowledge and skills) necessary to deliver evidence-based behaviour change techniques to smokers and these have provided the evidence for theNCSCT Training Standard – Learning Outcomes for Training Stop Smoking Practitioners’ which became the benchmark of quality training for stop smoking service personnel in April 2010.

These knowledge and skills competences have been incorporated into the NCSCT online and face-to-face training resources, and are embedded within the ‘NCSCT Standard Treatment Programme
