  • Mental health guidance - Ireland

The following resources are made available by Ireland's Health Service

    • Brief, repeated assessment of mental health should be incorporated into stop smoking support programmes. Structured measures (such as the PHQ-9 quick depression assessment questionnaire) can be used to monitor changes in mental health condition, but should be interpreted allowing for the effects of nicotine withdrawal

    • The 'Best practice guidelines for tobacco management in the mental health setting' report reviewed current practices around tobacco management in a variety of psychiatric services in a number of European countries

    • The risk assessment guidance tool has been developed to support the implementation of the Health Service Executive’s (HSE’s) Best Practice Guidelines for Tobacco Management in the Mental Health Setting

    • Healthy Ireland draws on existing policies, but proposes new arrangements to ensure effective co-operation and collaboration across Government, the health system and other relevant areas.
